Mental health in the workplace: skills for managers - two 3hr sessions over two consecutive days

Practical skills to enable managers to confidently and effectively promote and support positive mental health and wellbeing in the workplace

Mental health, much like physical health, can fluctuate throughout our lives; however, mental health can still be viewed as a taboo subject at work. Managers sometimes fear saying the wrong thing and making matters worse, but early intervention is key. It provides an opportunity for the manager and the individual to discuss appropriate support to help them stay in, or return to work. Being able to discuss mental health comfortably and openly benefits the individual, the team and the business.

Delegates attending this event will gain an understanding of what impacts mental health and wellbeing, as well as specific mental ill health conditions. They will learn how to effectively engage with staff at an early stage and gain practical knowledge of carrying out wellbeing conversations.

The event also covers the application of the Acas framework for positive mental health, a holistic model which describes the key responsibilities of all parties contributing to healthy and productive workplaces. Based on the knowledge gained during the event, delegates will be able to apply practical strategies in their workplace.
This training event is fully booked, please check our programme for an alternative Acas event which meets your needs, or phone 0300 123 1150 to find out about future events.

Mental health: employer responsibilities and the law

Understanding duty of care and the support employers can provide

Employers have a duty of care that includes a legal responsibility to support their employees’ mental health and wellbeing.

This training provides essential insights into what the employers responsibilities are, the benefits of making positive changes and the risks of not adapting policies to support employees struggling with their mental health.

We will outline practical steps that employers can take to make a lasting and beneficial impact.

We will provide a clear overview of the legislation relating to mental health and mental health conditions, in addition to the business and human cases for fostering a positive mental health culture at work.

This session will draw from the Acas framework for positive mental health, a holistic model which details the key responsibilities of the employer, the manager and the individual in contributing to a healthy and productive workplace.
