New help in managing absence: what the Fit for Work scheme means for your organisation

Overview

Every employer needs to understand how best to manage long term absence - every year in the UK there are more than 900,000 workplace absences of four weeks or more.

The Government has rolled out its Fit for Work scheme across England and Wales which provides new help in dealing with long term absence of 4 weeks or more through a voluntary return to work occupational health support service for employers and employees.

This new scheme affects every employer – even if you have your own occupational health scheme in place therefore it’s essential that you’re up to date with the changes.

Find out what you need to know - including how to access the service, what changes you need to make to your policies, what new financial help is available to employers, how it works if you have your own occupational health scheme, and what new support is available to employers. We’ll also be sharing our thoughts and best practice on how to work positively with your employees to ensure their effective return to the workplace.

Business need

Research shows that early intervention is the key to helping employees back into the workplace but that only 20% of UK businesses have access to occupational health services.

The Government has completed its roll out of its new Fit for work scheme, which gives GPs and employers the ability to refer employees who are absent (or likely to be absent) for 4 weeks or more to free Occupational Health services.

This scheme affects every employer – even if you have your own occupational health scheme in place.  We’ll be looking at what the changes mean for you and telling you what you need to know, including how to access the service, what new financial help is available to employers, how it works together with your own occupational health scheme, and what new support is available.

This event will ensure you have a good understanding of what’s

changing and the new help available - it will provide a practical overview of the Government’s new Fit for Work scheme, who is eligible for the scheme, the new help available, the changes you need to make to your policies and how it will work alongside your existing occupational health provision.

Attending this event will give you an invaluable insight into these changes and equip you with the key skills needed to manage it in your workplace.
