Toxic workplace cultures - how to avoid them

Overview

This session will look at what makes workplaces happy and successful as well as what can be done to avoid poor workplace cultures.

Business need

Most people know what it is like to work in an unhappy organisation where the culture is really ‘toxic’. The symptoms are all too easy to spot; they can include high staff turnover, poor employee engagement, grievances and employment tribunals. A recent survey showed that 39% of senior executives seriously think of quitting within 90 days after joining a new organisation because they despair of ‘fitting in’.

Economic times are tough and it is not easy to run a successful organisation. Organisations need to have a really positive workplace culture if they are going to succeed. Managers need to be skilful to avoid poor behaviour in the workplace that can lead to a bad atmosphere about the place, leading to poor productivity and high legal and recruitment costs.

Suitable For

HR staff who have a specific interest in employment relations or organisational development. Senior managers who just can’t seem to get their teams working well together. Equality and Diversity specialists who are being asked to tackle a culture where bullying is an issue.
