Setting up and running a staff forum or consultative group

Overview

Employee voice is about much more than giving employees a chance to have their say. It is about setting up channels for communication and arrangements for consultation that allows employees to be actively involved in decision-making.

An effective staff forum can drive innovation and improve business outcomes, provide an early warning system for emerging problems, and ultimately increase employee engagement with their work and their organisation.

Business need

Staff representative forums can help provide an opportunity for employee voice in a coherent and managed process.  An effective forum potentially increases employee commitment to their work and is a key component of employee engagement as employees are involved in decision-making and managing change through effective communication and consultation.
