Working with Unconscious Bias

Overview

This course provides an introduction to Unconscious Bias, the effects it can have in the workplace and positive ways to overcome it.

Business need

Every organisation needs to recruit and retain the best people for the job. It's important that the way employers present themselves externally - and the policies and practices that are used internally - are fair and effective. Recognising Unconscious Bias and its potential impacts can help reduce 'affinity bias' and stereotyping, therefore improving recruitment, retention and workplace relations.

Suitable For

Those involved in recruitment such as managers and HR professionals.

It will be particularly useful for organisations who are introducing 'blind' recruitment, including public sector employers.

Programme

This session will outline:

  • What Unconscious Bias is and the science behind it;
  • How it can show itself in the work place;
  • The impact of Unconscious Bias and why this matters;
  • Strategies for dealing with Unconscious Bias.

You may also find it useful to attend other courses about recruitment and diversity in the South West. You can see all events in our region here.
