Understanding Maternity, Paternity and Adoption Rights

Overview

A comprehensive overview of everything you need to know about maternity, paternity and adoption rights. We will also be joined by a guest speaker from The Equality and Human Rights Commission.

Business need

Understanding maternity, paternity and adoption rights is essential for the modern workplace. From ante-natal appointments through to keeping in touch and returning to work, our specialist trainers will take you through all you need to know about the rights and will also explain the links with associated aspects such as time off for dependents, parental leave and the right to request flexible working.

We will also be joined by a guest speaker from The Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC). The EHRC will discuss the key findings of their pregnancy and maternity research, which was carried out in partnership with the Department for Business Innovation and Skills. The research covered issues around health and safety, breastfeeding, contact on maternity leave and the attitudes and beliefs of employers regarding pregnancy.

In addition, the session will explore the tools the Commission has developed to support employers in making their workplace the best they can be for pregnant women and new parents. This includes Working Forward, a member led initiative supported by high profile organisations such as Barclays, John Lewis Partnership and Ford.

By the end of the session you will understand what your responsibilities are in relation to the legislation and be aware of both employee and employer rights.

The session also covers developments which are planned for the future and will explain the recent changes, ensuring you are fully up to date with current legislation.

All delegates will receive an electronic certificate of attendance for their participation in the training.
