Working with unconscious bias

Overview

Although natural and unintended, unconscious bias can influence decisions on recruitment, promotion and staff development. It can lead to a less diverse workforce and have serious implications for an organisation.

This half day event provides an introduction to unconscious bias, the effects it can have in the workplace and positive ways to overcome it.

Business need

Through unconscious bias, employers can often overlook talented workers and instead favour those who share their own characteristics or views. Where unconscious bias is against a protected characteristic, it can be discriminatory.

Organisations that recognise and understand the potential impacts of unconscious bias can improve recruitment, retention and workplace relations.

This event will help delegates identify and understand unconscious bias and avoid the potentially serious pitfalls it can have in the workplace.

All delegates will receive an electronic certificate of attendance for their participation in the training.

Suitable For

Delegates from all sectors of industry including: managers, supervisors, team leaders, HR professionals, business owners, Trade Union representatives, employee representatives and individuals who wish to enhance their CPD.

Programme

This event will cover:

  • What is unconscious bias?
  • How unconscious bias can emerge in the workplace
  • The impact of unconscious bias and why it matters
  • How to deal with unconscious bias in the workplace
