Resolving workplace disputes and fair dismissal

Overview

Join Acas and leading employment relations experts as we explore dispute resolution and discover how adopting a proactive approach to disputes can benefit your business and develop good working relationships.

We will focus on dispute prevention, alternative dispute resolution measures, including Acas conciliation and consider the common pitfalls employers may face when defending an unfair dismissal claim at tribunal.

Business Need

Workplace disputes can happen in any employment relationship. It can impact employee morale, motivation and productivity and lead to an increase in absence and staff turnover.

Acas Research conducted in 2021 found that workplace conflict costs UK businesses approximately £28.5 billion per year - the equivalent of more than £1,000 per employee.

Attending an Employment Tribunal can be a daunting and costly prospect for employers. The estimated cost to employers of defending a claim at employment tribunal is now around £10,000. Losing a claim may cost significantly more

Adopting early and effective dispute resolution measures can reduce these costs and have a positive impact in terms of productivity, working relationships and the wellbeing of employees.
