Deductions from pay

Level – Developing - for building skills and knowledge in a topic. Aimed at people with some experience or existing knowledge

There are strict rules about what can and can’t be deducted from someone’s pay. Getting it wrong can lead to:
  • grievances
  • demotivated employees
  • potential fines
  • legal claims

Employers are responsible for making sure workers are paid correctly in accordance with the law.

This training will make sure you’re up to date with current legislation and good practice. It will help clarify the rules around deductions and give you more confidence that your policies are correct.

Who is this best suited to?

Having a general understanding of wages and pay will help you get the most out of the event.

This training would be especially suitable for:

  • HR generalists
  • line managers
  • business owners

What will I learn from this training?

  • when deductions can be made lawfully
  • unlawful deductions, common pitfalls
  • how to respond to pay queries
  • an overview of protections under the Employment Rights Act 1996
  • an outline of what payslips must include
  • an introduction to how deductions impact National Minimum Wage
  • developing skills in responding to a pay query

By the end of this training attendees will be able to:
