Equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace: a masterclass

Overview

Promoting and delivering equality, diversity and inclusion in the workplace is an essential aspect of good people management. It’s about creating working environments and cultures where every individual feels safe, experiences a sense of belonging, and is empowered to achieve their full potential.

EDI covers the protected characteristics under the Equality Act 2010, which include age, race, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment, disability, marital status, pregnancy and maternity and religion and belief.

It is a requirement of every employer to ensure discriminatory practices are addressed in the workplace and that organisations embed fairness for everyone. This can help contribute to the wellbeing and morale of employees, achieve equality of outcomes and ultimately improve organisational productivity.

Business Need

EDI is an important focus in all areas of the employment lifecycle, including recruitment, reasonable adjustment and discrimination considerations and disciplinary and grievance processes.

A workplace encouraging equality, diversity and inclusion can help:

  • improve recruitment and retention
  • improve employee engagement and motivation
  • prevent serious or legal issues arising, such as bullying, harassment and discrimination
  • better serve a diverse range of customers
  • improve ideas and problem-solving
  • attract and keep good staff
  • improve organisational productivity

Join Acas and leading experts as we discuss topical EDI matters, from an interpersonal, organisational and legal perspective, in order to help your workplace improve and meet its EDI objectives.
